Ryan Ozawa's work experience starts in 1994 when they founded Hawaii Hui LLC. Ryan went on to co-found Kahanu, LLC in 2020, where they helped design and donate emergency bridge ventilators to hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. From 2007 to 2022, they worked as the Director of Communications at Hawaii Information Service, where they managed internal and external communications for a Multiple Listing Service (MLS). In 2019, they also worked as a columnist for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. In 2021, they served as a Community Engagement Consultant at Hawaii Technology Development Corporation. In 2022, they became the Founder of Kilinahe Foundation, a non-profit organization. Ryan then joined Decrypt as the Pacific News Editor, providing accessible and level-headed crypto news. Currently, they are working as part of the Business Development team at Vicinity, offering innovative cloud and cybersecurity services for local businesses and organizations. Additionally, they have previous experience as the CIO & Board Member at ID8 and served as the CEO and Co-Founder of Smart Yields, an agricultural technology startup.
Ryan Ozawa earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Hawaii at Manoa from 1992 to 2001. In addition to their degree, they also obtained several certifications throughout their career. In 2012, they received an Amateur Radio Service General Operator Class certification from the Federal Communications Commission. In 2014, they obtained a Real Estate Salesperson License (#RS-76142) from the State of Hawaii. In 2019, they obtained a Small UAS Rule (Part 107) Remote Pilot Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration. In 2022, they obtained a Notary Public Commission from the State of Hawaii. Lastly, in 2023, they became certified in Cybersecurity (CC) from (ISC)².
