Yushan Yan has a diverse work experience in academia and the private sector. Yushan is currently serving as the Henry B. du Pont Chair in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware, a position they have held since September 2019. Prior to this, they were a Distinguished Engineering Professor at the same university from July 2011 to August 2019. During their time at the University of Delaware, they also served as the Founding Associate Dean for Research and Entrepreneurship from September 2014 to December 2018.
In addition to their academic roles, Yushan Yan has been involved in entrepreneurial ventures. Yushan co-founded RepAir Carbon Capture in May 2021 and is currently serving as a cofounder in the company. Yushan also founded and served as the CEO of Versogen, a company focused on developing advanced fuel cell technology, from November 2017.
Before joining the University of Delaware, Yushan Yan held various positions at the University of California, Riverside. Yushan started as a Professor, University Scholar, and Presidential Chair in July 1998 and served as the Department Chair during their tenure. Prior to their academic career, they worked as a Senior Staff Engineer at AlliedSignal from September 1996 to August 1998.

Yushan Yan completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China, from 1983 to 1988. Following this, from 1988 to 1992, they pursued studies in Heterogeneous Catalysis at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Lastly, Yushan Yan obtained a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Caltech, where they studied from 1992 to 1996.
