Shehzad Wadalawala has a diverse work experience in the energy sector. Shehzad started their career at Pacific Gas and Electric Company, where they held several roles, including Manager of Short Term Portfolio Management and Supervisor of Market Analysis. During their time at PG&E, they developed market reports, implemented monitoring frameworks, and led bidding strategy development for California's transition to a nodal market.
Shehzad then moved on to work at California Clean Power, where they served as the Associate Director of Procurement. In this role, they analyzed utility tariffs and filings to assess risks to the Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) business model. Shehzad also authored feasibility reports, contributing to the expansion of the CCA model in California.
Following that, Shehzad joined SolarCity as a Senior Manager of Grid Engineering Solutions. Here, they prepared RFI responses for utility storage procurements and evaluated business partnership opportunities for Distributed Energy Resources (DERs).
After SolarCity, they worked at The Energy Authority as a Client Services Manager, overseeing the design and implementation of energy portfolio management services for various clients, including the University of California and Redwood Coast Energy Authority. Shehzad facilitated discussions to define portfolio objectives and supported client procurement activities.
Shehzad then joined Google as an Energy Portfolio Manager, where they developed and implemented the company's Energy Hedging Program and Risk Management Framework. Shehzad managed external consultants and provided technical guidance on fundamental modeling for wholesale price and grid emission scenarios. Shehzad'swork informed financial commitments for Google's data centers and clean energy PPAs.
Most recently, Shehzad joined Verse as the Head of Strategy.
Shehzad Wadalawala obtained their Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003. Shehzad then pursued a PhD in the same field at the same university from 2003 to 2008. However, their PhD remains ABD (All but Dissertation).
