Gerald Ouellette

Manager, Energy Innovation at Verra

As Manager of Energy Innovation, Gerald Ouellette manages Verra’s global work related to the energy sector. In particular, he focuses on standards and program development for methane reduction, carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS & CCS), energy storage, responsibly sourced natural gas production, renewables, clean hydrogen and the hydrogen economy, and other technological greenhouse gas reduction opportunities.

Prior to joining Verra, Gerald worked for the Government of Alberta, where he served as Manager of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Policy. In that role, he led a team that was developing regulations and policy for CCS to advance in the province with key details around project application requirements, environmental monitoring, emissions verifications, and climate change policies. This involved the management of Alberta’s existing large scale commercial CCS projects and technical/policy evaluation to advance CCS hubs in the province. In addition, he worked with the organization as a subsurface geologist and in resource development policy roles to support sustainable resource development and limit negative impacts. He led teams responsible for grant funding reviews to advance remediation and rehabilitation programs for the environmental clean-up programs of thousands of oil and gas wells across Alberta. This work addressed aging and leaky oil and gas infrastructure. Gerald is experienced in leading staff, teams, programs, and policy development to support sustainable resource development with experience in government, the oil and gas industry and in environmental consulting.

Gerald is a Professional Geoscientist based in Edmonton, Canada, with a Masters in Earth and Energy Resource Leadership (MEERL) from Queen’s University and a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Alberta. He is an avid outdoorsman who is passionate about the earth, our energy transition, sustainable resource development, and reducing emission globally.
