Camille Delebecque

SVP, Head of Biotechnology at Verb Biotics

Camille Delebecque has a diverse and extensive work experience in the biotechnology industry. Starting in 2012, Camille worked at PureTech Health, where they focused on business and technology development. In this role, they sourced and assessed innovations from academic laboratories and startups for potential partnerships with pharmaceutical companies.

In 2013, Camille founded SynBio Consulting, a company that provides innovation sourcing, commercial assessments, and technology transfer services in biotechnology. Camille worked with various organizations across sectors to identify and accelerate the deployment of novel biotechnologies.

Camille also had advisory roles with Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, and the European Commission. At Merck, they served as an advisor and jury member for the Future Insight Prize, assisting in awarding $40M to stimulate breakthrough solutions in sustainability, health, nutrition, and energy. With the European Commission, they advised the Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) on Synthetic Biology and co-authored white papers.

In 2014, Camille co-founded Afineur, a venture-backed company focused on developing new ingredients and food products through unique fermentation and enzymatic processes. Camille played a key role in business development, innovation strategy, R&D, biomanufacturing, and team management.

Camille was also the CEO and founder of SOIL.BIO, where they developed natural microbial inoculants for the agriculture industry. Camille combined proprietary screening technology with strain improvement, fermentation, and stabilization platforms to improve yields sustainably.

At Microbes BioSciences, Camille served as the Chief Scientific Officer and successfully transitioned the company from developing microbial solutions for the oil industry to sustainable agriculture. Through the production and commercialization of a new microbial product line, they achieved significant growth in sales and improved plant yield and stress resistance.

More recently, Camille joined Verb Biotics LLC as the SVP, Head of Biotechnology. In this role, they spearhead the science and business efforts to produce the next generation of pre, pro, and postbiotic ingredients. Camille leverages and deploys Ginkgo's assets across synthetic biology and advises on novel technologies for business advancement. Additionally, Camille serves as a strategic advisor for a spinout company from Ginkgo Bioworks, supporting product and innovation strategy, business activities, and technical partnerships.

Camille's work experience also includes serving as a reviewer for the Department of Energy's Biomanufacturing & Synthetic Biology division and as a board member for the Canadian Synthetic Biology Education Research Group (CSBERG).

Camille Delebecque holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Synthetic Biology & Biotechnology from Paris Descartes in France and Harvard University in the USA. In addition, Camille has a degree from Harvard Business School in Inventing breakthroughs and Commercializing Science. Camille also has a Masters degree from AgroParisTech in Agronomical Engineering, Food Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Management of Innovation. Further, Camille holds a M. Sc degree in Interdisciplinary Approaches to Life Sciences from Ecole Normale Supérieur, Paris Diderot, and Paris Descartes Universities. Camille also studied BCPST (Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) in Classe Préparatoire at Lycée Descartes Prep School.

Camille Delebecque has obtained several certifications including being a Techstar Alumni from Techstars' (Bio)Tech accelerator program in September 2016, a GRIST 50 Fixer in Climate, Sustainability, and Equity from Grist in January 2016, a SynbioLEAP Fellow from the Synthetic Biology Leadership Excellence Accelerator Program in January 2015, and an IndieBio Alumni from IndieBio's Biotech accelerator program in June 2014.
