Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the candidate will be responsible for leading general accounting operations of the Company, specifically overseeing payroll, stock administration, as well as aiding in accruals, journal entries, month end close processes, balance sheet recons and certain other accounting activities to support the growth and scaling of the Company. We seek a highly motivated professional with solid GAAP and technical accounting understanding and who can define improvements in accounting processes, policies and procedures to help enable the growth of Vaxcyte. Someone who provides excellent leadership and maintains open, collaborative relationships within their team and with key stakeholders in the organization. The ideal candidate utilizes interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence and encourage others; advocates sound financial/business decision making and leads by example.    

Essential Functions:

  • Supervising a team of at least two (2) direct reports, primarily leading payroll and stock administration.
  • Responsible for payroll processing, reporting and compliance
  • Responsible for stock administration – ensure accuracy and timeliness of recording and reporting all equity award activities
  • Assist in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close procedures, including preparation and review of journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Lead functions under management in identifying, reviewing/verifying, analysis and implementing process improvement opportunities including impact and risk assessments, status reporting and change management.
  • Key role in external audit (including, but not limited to, financial statement audits and 401K audits) and reporting process and execute process improvements to ensure strong internal controls as the company scales up its operations.
  • Collaborates well with the extended finance team to ensure adherence to a timely close and reporting process, timely responses to internal/external audit requests and overall execution of team objectives.
  • Involvement in special projects, system implementations, upgrades, integrations or process improvements, as needed.
  • Develop and manage a high functioning, efficient and responsive team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/ Accounting
  • 10+ years accounting experience, including 3+ years in a public company.
  • Public accounting experience required; CPA preferred.
  • Biotech/life sciences and manufacturing experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and experience with SEC regulations
  • Accounting ERP system experience, preferably NetSuite or SAP
  • Experience using ADP, Equity Edge, Concur and other accounting and reporting tools
  • 3+ years of experience coaching, supervising, planning and directing the work of multiple direct reports
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Effective communicator with good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional leaders and others in the company
  • Ability to work independently with general direction and guidance
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in an ever-changing environment
