Marylens Hernandez, PhD has extensive work experience in the field of bioinformatics and data science. Marylens is currently employed as a Senior Staff Data Scientist at Valo since May 2021. Prior to this, they worked at AstraZeneca from January 2019 to May 2021, first as a Senior Bioinformatics and Data Scientist and then as an Associate Principal Scientist, specializing in bioinformatics and data science. Before joining AstraZeneca, Marylens worked at AI Therapeutics as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist from January 2017 to December 2018, and as a Bioinformatics Scientist from June 2015 to December 2016. Marylens started their career as a PhD student at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from September 2009 to May 2015. Prior to that, Marylens also worked at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as a Computational Biologist, where they developed mathematical methods, implemented new methods for sequence alignment, and created a web server for identifying ligand binding sites in protein structures.
Marylens Hernandez, PhD, earned their high school diploma from Humboldt 7 in the years 1997 to 2000. Following this, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biochemistry and Bioinformatics from the University of Havana, completing their studies from 2000 to 2005. Later, from 2009 to 2014, they attended the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computational Biology/Neuroscience.
