Peter Makgwane is an accomplished academic and researcher with extensive experience in the field of chemistry and process engineering. Currently serving as a Professor at the University of South Africa since February 2024, Makgwane has been an Extraordinary Full Professor and Extraordinary Associate Professor at the University of the Western Cape since July 2018. Prior to these roles, a significant tenure at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) spanned from August 2011 to January 2024, where responsibilities included Principal Research Scientist, Senior Research Scientist, and Postdoctoral Researcher. Additionally, Makgwane worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at InnoVenton: NMMU Chemical Technology Institute in 2010 and held positions as a Scientist at Sasol and a Research Chemist at Mintek in the early 2000s. Academic qualifications include a BSc in Chemistry, BSc Hons in Chemistry, MSc in Chemistry from the University of Pretoria, a PhD in Chemistry focusing on Heterogeneous Catalysis and Microreaction Engineering from Nelson Mandela University, and a Postdoctoral fellowship in Process Chemistry and Reaction Engineering from InnoVenton in 2010.
