Paul Reed, MD, Rear Admiral USPHS, currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health and Director of the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion since June 2020, focusing on national public health objectives and improvement of health services for Americans. Reed has been a member of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service since August 2008, specializing in emergency management and public health initiatives. Prior positions include Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services, Associate Professor for Global Health at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and leadership roles in national and international health organizations, emphasizing disaster response and humanitarian assistance. Reed earned an MD from Boston University School of Medicine and a BA in Biology from Boston University.
