Joshua Smallwood has a diverse work experience in the technology industry spanning over several years. Joshua started their career as a Developer/Teaching Assistant/Peer Tutor at Radford University in 2004, where they designed and implemented various web applications. Joshua then worked at Hubbard One as an Associate Developer, responsible for technical support of client web applications, before being promoted to Developer and later Senior Developer/Technical Lead. At Hubbard One, they implemented large scale web applications and data integrations for top clients, managed the framework, and implemented software releases and updates.
From 2009 to 2012, Joshua worked at Thomson Reuters as a .Net Architect, where they managed a team and delivered solutions for large law firms. Joshua also designed web applications, integrations, and data migrations for clients.
Subsequently, they joined Channel IQ as a Team Lead - Product Development, leading three application teams and managing the technical process. Joshua was responsible for designing and implementing a highly scalable application and acting as the technical owner for three client applications within their SaaS platform.
In 2015, Joshua joined SpotHero as a Lead Full Stack Developer, where they worked closely with the CTO to set technical direction and architecture for new and existing features. Joshua also established best practices for testing, quality assurance, and coding. In the same year, they also worked at Guaranteed Rate as the VP of Software Development.
From 2017, Joshua started working at UrbanBound, initially as the Director of Technology and later promoted as the Chief Technology Officer in 2019. In their role, they led a team in the creation of an automated relocation management product, ensured the product had an intuitive UX, and worked with the product team to resolve any ambiguity in requirements.
Prior to their current role at UrbanBound, they were also a Co-Founder/Chief Technology Officer at Friend of a Friend (aka FOAF), where they managed the technology stack, including infrastructure, hosting, architecture, and development. FOAF was a non-traditional dating site applying the LinkedIn model to dating.
