Marcos Vieyra has a diverse range of work experience in the field of information security. Marcos has served as the Executive Director and Chief Information Security Officer at the University of South Carolina since September 2018. Prior to this, they worked as the CISO-in-Residence at SANS Technology Institute from April 2017 to August 2018. In 2014, they held the position of Chief Information Security Officer for the State of South Carolina, where they led the newly created Division of Information Security and was responsible for establishing information security policies and overseeing incident response at state agencies. From 2001 to 2014, Marcos held multiple roles at the University of South Carolina, including Chief Information Security Officer and Director of Information Security. Marcos started their career in 1993 as a Systems Administrator in the US Air Force, where they gained experience in IT support and security.
Marcos Vieyra obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of South Carolina, where they studied from 2006 to 2011. Prior to that, from 1995 to 1998, they attended National American University, focusing on Management Information Systems/Computer Information Systems. Additionally, Vieyra has attained multiple certifications in various fields, such as privacy management, information security, and network auditing.
