Samantha Hegmann-Wary

Associate Athletic Director For Compliance/swa at University of Maine

Samantha Hegmann-Wary joined the University of Maine in the fall of 2019 as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator. Hegmann-Wary was named interim athletic director at UMaine on Sept. 1. Along with her compliance and SWA duties, Hegmann serves as sport supervisor for baseball, field hockey and as a co-supervisor of women’s basketball.

Prior to joining the Black Bears, Hegmann spent two years as the assistant director of athletics for NCAA education and compliance services at Hofstra. In this role, Hegmann managed many duties within the compliance department including the National Letter of Intent/Athletic Grant in aid program, created rules educational materials and contributed her time to mentoring programming for Life Skills Development and SAAC. During her time at Hofstra, Hegmann was assigned sport oversight of the men’s golf and softball programs.

Before her stint at Hofsta, Hegmann spent five years at Monmouth, where she has worked as the assistant director for compliance since August 2012, while also serving as the interim senior associate athletics director for student-athlete development and as senior women’s administrator. In her capacity at Monmouth, she oversaw compliance operations for 23 Division 1 teams, monitoring initial eligibility, recruiting, camp and clinic approval, official visits, compliance paperwork and playing and practice regulations. She was also the sport administrator for the school’s softball team.

Prior to her time at Monmouth, Hegmann spent nearly a year as the administrative fellow for compliance at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after serving as the assistant track and field coach for throwing events at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Hegmann competed in Division 1 track and field at Monmouth, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in health studies in 2010. She then completed her master’s in physical education and sport management at Adelphi in 2011.
