Karen Boucias (BA, English, 1971) worked in academic institutions in Kentucky and Florida before returning to the University of Maine where she worked for more than 30 years prior to her retirement. At Maine she was a department head at Fogler Library; associate dean for the Graduate School; and Director of the Office of International Programs, where she oversaw international admissions; all of the University’s immigration needs; study abroad programs, university partnerships and exchanges; and services to international students and scholars. She was awarded a Fulbright grant to Germany, and was a founding member of the Fulbright Chapter for the State of Maine, serving twice on that Board of Directors. For twelve years she was a Board member for the American University in Bulgaria, which the University of Maine helped found. She currently serves on the Collins Center Board and the University of Maine Foundation board. She is a member of the Stillwater Society, the Charles F. Allen Society and the President’s Club. She also holds a Master of Science in Library of Science from the University of Kentucky.
