Shannon Miller has a diverse range of work experience. Shannon started their career as a General Assignment/High School Sports Writer for the Orlando Sentinel, covering various sports events and serving as a co-host for a high school sports television broadcast. Shannon then joined the Detroit Free Press as a Beat Writer, primarily covering Michigan State University football and basketball, as well as assisting with other beats such as Detroit Pistons basketball and NASCAR. During their time at the Free Press, they also contributed to the Gannett/USA Today team covering the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Following their time at the Detroit Free Press, Shannon Miller worked as a Freelance Writer/Reporter/Content Marketing Writer. Shannon contributed articles to several publications and corporations, including the Huffington Post, Scholastic Parent and Child, Parents, and Metro Parent.
Eventually, Miller transitioned into the field of university communications and held various roles at the University of Dayton. Shannon served as an Assistant Director of Communications, responsible for producing newsletters and campaign materials, as well as editing and writing for the University of Dayton Magazine. Later, they became an Associate Director of Communications, managing internal communications and writing for the university's publications. Their final role at the University of Dayton was as the Associate Director of News and Internal Communications, where they handled internal communications, assisted with external media relations, and wrote for the University of Dayton Magazine and the UDQuickly blog.
In addition to their university work, Shannon Miller also worked as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Dayton, teaching a sport media class that explored the role of media in sport management using case studies and real-world scenarios.
Throughout their career, Shannon Miller has demonstrated expertise in journalism, communications, and teaching, contributing to various publications and organizations.
Shannon Miller earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Relations and Journalism from Michigan State University in the years 1995 to 1999. Shannon later pursued a Master's Degree in Journalism from Northwestern University from 1999 to 2001.
