Thomas (Tom) Y. Avery is a scientific researcher at Universitätsklinikum Freiburg since March 2020, focusing on targeted interruption of hyperactivated RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK signaling in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma through the inhibition of MEK and SHP2 phosphatase. Prior to this role, Thomas gained extensive clinical experience as a resident in general and visceral surgery at Maastricht University from September 2015 to March 2020, where involvement included research on TNFR2 agonism for the expansion of regulatory T lymphocytes. Additional residency experience in general surgery was obtained at Zuyderland and Maastricht UMC+, complemented by research assistant positions in clinical chemistry, immunology, and neurology, exploring areas such as ANCA detection algorithms and the impact of vitamin D on multiple sclerosis.
