Zezen Zaenal Mutaqin has a diverse and extensive work experience. Zezen currently holds the position of Head of Master Degree Program in the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia since August 2022. At the same university, they have been a Faculty Member in the Islamic Studies Department since February 2022.
Prior to their current position, Zezen worked as a Consultant for UNICEF starting in September 2021. Zezen also pursued their SJD (Doctor of Juridical Science) degree at the University of California, Los Angeles - School of Law, where they were a candidate from August 2016 until September 2021.
Zezen was awarded the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education Scholarship Batch IV 2015 from LPDP Kementerian Keuangan RI, where they held the position from December 2015 to September 2021.
Zezen has also worked as a Consultant for Geneva Call from January 2018 to November 2018. Prior to that, they served as an Assistant to the Regional Advisor at ICRC Djakarta from January 2013 to August 2016. In this role, they were responsible for networking with religious circles in Southeast Asia on humanitarian issues, disseminating information on International Humanitarian Law and Islamic Law, and managing humanitarian projects in the region.
Earlier in their career, Zezen worked as a Lecturer at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta from January 2010 to February 2016. Zezen also had a brief stint as a Consultant at ICRC Jakarta from March 2012 to December 2012 and as a Researcher at Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) from January 2008 to February 2012.

Zezen Zaenal Mutaqin began their education journey in 1999 at Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, where they pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree in Law. Zezen successfully completed this program in 2006. In 2009, they furthered their studies at the University of Melbourne, where they obtained an LL.M degree in Public International Law, completing the program in 2010. In 2011, Zezen Zaenal Mutaqin attended two summer schools, one at Leiden University studying International Law and Legal Studies, and the other at Utrecht University, specializing in International Criminal Law. Zezen Zaenal Mutaqin then pursued higher education at the University of California, Los Angeles - School of Law, where they obtained an SJD degree in Law, completing this program in 2020.
