Alanna Armitage is the Regional Director for Eastern Europe & Central Asia at the United Nations Population Fund. Prior to their current position, they served as a Programme Officer for UNDP, managing programmes in the field of health, HIV/AIDS, gender, and education. Armitage was also the UNDP focal point in Mauritania for 15 United Nations agencies.
Before their time with UNDP, Armitage served as the Gender and Development Advisor for the Canadian International Development Agency. In this role, they produced technical guidance notes on Women and the Environment and Women and HIV. Armitage also wrote and produced the Annual Report of the Women in Development Directorate and undertook Gender Impact Assessments of development projects.
Armitage began their career as a Volunteer for the Belize Rural Women's Association. In this role, they drafted project documents for resource mobilization and supported media workshops.
Alanna Armitage has a PhD in Anthropology and Sociology of Development from the Geneva Graduate Institute, a PG Diploma in Health Systems Management from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London, a Master's degree in International Development and Cooperation from the University of Ottawa, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Cultural Anthropology from Western University.
Alanna Armitage reports to Diene Keita, Deputy Executive Director (Programme). They work with Julitta Onabanjo - Director Technical Division, Bjorn Andersson - Regional Director, Asia and the Pacific, and Arthur Erken - Director, Programme Division.
