Charles Tesson is a distinguished figure in the film industry with extensive experience in various prominent roles. Currently serving as Président de la Commission désignant le film pour l'Oscar du Meilleur Film International at the Centre National de la Cinématographie since September 2024, Tesson also holds multiple leadership positions at Unifrance since March 2022, focusing on the selective aid for the distribution of French feature films abroad. An academic at Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris 3 from 1994 until September 2023, Tesson contributed to cinema studies as a Maître de conférences. Previously, Tesson was the Délégué général of the Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival from July 2011 to August 2021 and served as Président of the Commission Aide aux Cinémas du Monde (CNC - Institut Français) from May 2016 to July 2021. As a film critic for Cahiers du cinéma from 1979 to 2013 and its editor-in-chief from 1998 to 2003, Tesson has also made significant contributions to film journalism. Tesson holds a doctoral degree in cinema studies from Université de Paris III Sorbonne nouvelles, completed between 1976 and 1979.
