Georges Gharios

Associate National Programme Officer at UNESCO

Georges Gharios, PhD, is a seasoned expert in water policy and governance, currently serving as a Water Policy and Governance Expert and Communications Manager at Difaf SAL since February 2023. With extensive experience in the agricultural sector as a Citrus Grower at Rawda Farms since September 2009, and as an Agriculture and Water Consultant with AQUEOS, Georges has been actively involved in agricultural practices in Lebanon. As a Senior Facilitator for Waterlution Canada since July 2018, Georges has designed and implemented workshops focused on water management. Previous roles include Water Governance Specialist at FAO, Lead Author for ESCWA and the American University of Beirut, as well as consulting work with UNESCO and USAID. Georges holds a PhD in Water Law from the University of Dundee, a Master of Science in International Land and Water Management from Wageningen University, and a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture from the American University of Beirut.
