Shamika Sirimanne, Ph.D. has a diverse and extensive work experience in various organizations. Shamika is currently serving as the Director of the Division on Technology and Logistics at UNCTAD since June 2016. Before joining UNCTAD, they held several positions at the United Nations ESCAP, including Director of the ICT and Disaster Risk Reduction Division from an unknown start date to 2016, Officer-In-Charge of the Statistics Division in 2014, Secretary of the Commission from unknown start date to 2012, Chief of the Trade Facilitation Section from unknown start date to 2011, and Chief of the Socio-Economic Analysis Section from unknown start date to 2008. Prior to their tenure at the United Nations ESCAP, they worked as an Economic Affairs Officer at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa from 2001 to 2005. Shamika also gained experience as a Senior Economist at Finance Canada / Finances Canada from 1997 to 2001.
Shamika Sirimanne, Ph.D. obtained their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD degree in Economics from Carleton University in 2001. Prior to this, they completed their Masters degree in Economics from the University of Toronto in 1989.
