Alexis Simmons has an extensive background in education and leadership, currently serving as Dean of Students and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Facilitator at Uncommon Schools since July 2019. Previous roles at Uncommon Schools include Associate Dean of Students and ELA teacher for both 7th and 5th grades. Earlier experience includes serving as an Executive Assistant at University Programs, an Administrative Intern at The Classical Theatre of Harlem, and a Diversity in The Arts Leadership Intern at Americans for the Arts. Leadership capabilities are highlighted by the role as President of the Lambda Zeta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and as Summer Leadership Staff at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan. Alexis holds a BA in Communication from The University of Alabama and a high school diploma in Theatre Arts from The Alabama School of Fine Arts.
