Strategic Development Manager at UEFA

Liam Mc Groarty has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Liam began their career in education, working as a Secondary School Teacher for the Department of Education and Skills in Ireland from 2000 to 2003. Liam then transitioned to the field of theology, working as a Lecturer in Theology at the Marino Institute of Education from 2003 to 2006.

In 2006, Liam joined the Football Association of Ireland where they held multiple positions. Liam served as the National Coordinator for Volunteer Education from 2006 to 2008, overseeing the delivery of national projects aimed at increasing participation in football and supporting voluntary committees in organizing competitions. Liam also worked as the Grassroots Manager from 2008 to 2010, responsible for delivering participation programs and coordinating coaches for the Summer Soccer Schools.

From 2010 to 2013, Liam held the role of Head of Football Development at the Football Association of Ireland. In this position, they led a team of 110+ staff and had strategic, commercial, communications, operations, and financial responsibilities. Liam oversaw the delivery of national projects focused on increasing participation, improving education, and enhancing player development. Additionally, they served as the International High Performance Director from 2012 to 2013, providing guidance to Irish international managers and overseeing the National Association's education program and underage international scouting network.

As a Development Consultant, Liam worked independently from 2013 to 2014, offering their expertise in development strategies. From 2014 to 2015, they joined AIBA as the AIBA Pro Boxing Competition Director. Liam designed and implemented a structured competition for professional boxing, leading to title fights twice a year, which were broadcasted live for domestic and international audiences.

Most recently, Liam has been working at UEFA since 2016 as a Strategic Development Manager.

Liam Mc Groarty has a diverse education history spanning multiple fields of study. Liam obtained a Bachelor's degree in Theology from St Patrick's Pontifical University, Maynooth in 1998. Following this, they pursued further studies in Theology at the Pontifical University, St Patrick's College, Maynooth, Ireland, where they achieved a Summa Theologie degree from 1998 to 2000. In 2004, Liam Mc Groarty attended Dublin City University and completed a Master's Degree in Education, with a focus on enhancing their knowledge in this field. Moving away from their theological studies, in 2008, they received a Grad Cert in Sport in the Community from Boston College. Additionally, during the same year, they acquired a UEFA 'A' Licence from the Football Association of Ireland, emphasizing their interest and expertise in the field of sports.
