Babak Shadgan

Babak Shadgan has a diverse work experience in various academic and research positions. Babak is currently an Assistant Professor at The University of British Columbia, specializing in Orthopaedics. In addition, they serve as an Associate Faculty Member in the School of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Pathology and Medical Laboratories. Babak is also a Research Scientist in Transcutaneous and Implantable Biosensing and a Clinical Application Specialist in BioPhotonics Diagnostic & Monitoring Technologies.

Babak Shadgan has a strong background in academia and research, having completed their PhD and worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Assistant at The University of British Columbia. Babak has published numerous articles and has been involved in the editorial board of JSciMed Central.

Outside of academia, Babak Shadgan has also held leadership roles in the field of sports medicine. Babak has served as the President of the Medical & Anti-Doping Commission for United World Wrestling and as a Medical Officer for the Fédération Internationale des Luttes Associées (FILA). Babak has also directed the Sports Medicine Center at Nationl Olympic Academy.

Additionally, Babak Shadgan is affiliated with the University of Victoria as an Affiliate Faculty Member in the School of Health Information Science, and with the Canadian National Transplant Research Program as a CNTRP Investigator. Babak is a Fellow and Instructor at SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics.

Babak Shadgan has an extensive education history that spans several prestigious institutions and fields of study. Babak began their educational journey at Azad University - Tehran Medical School, where they obtained their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from 1987 to 1994. Following this, they pursued a Fellowship in Osteosynthesis at AO-International Orthopaedic Foundation in 1998.

Continuing their academic pursuits, Babak Shadgan earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Sports Medicine from the University of London between 2000 and 2012. During this time, they also engaged in a Fellowship in NIRS Optical Tomography at Harvard University for the duration of 2009.

Babak'spassion for research and further specialization led him to The University of British Columbia, where they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Muscle Biophysics - Optical Diagnostics from 2006 to 2011. This doctoral program allowed him to delve deeper into their chosen field of study.

In addition to their extensive education, Babak Shadgan has obtained a significant certification. Babak has been recognized as a SPIE Fellow by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, in August 2021.
