Erik Schmalbach

Data Scientist at Department of Justice

Erik Schmalbach is a data scientist and statistician with extensive experience in economic research analysis, currently serving at the U.S. Department of Justice since January 2019. Previous roles include high school mathematics teacher at Ewing Public Schools and Bordentown Regional Schools, where Erik taught Algebra I and II and co-taught special education classes. At The Johns Hopkins University, Erik contributed as an undergraduate research assistant in analyzing transportation data, a macroeconomics tutor, and a physics lab assistant. Erik also gained experience at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where notable contributions included auditing accounts and revising procedural guidelines. Erik holds a Master of Science in Economics and Management from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Economics from The Johns Hopkins University.
