Dean Karlan is a prominent economist currently serving as Chief Economist at USAID since November 2022. In addition to this role, Dean Karlan is a Professor of Economics and Finance at Northwestern University and a co-founder and chairman of ImpactMatters. Dean Karlan founded Innovations for Poverty Action and co-founded stickK.com, LLC, while also holding a position as a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for Global Development. Previously, Dean Karlan was a Professor of Economics at Yale University and an Assistant Professor at Princeton University. Dean Karlan's expertise extends to advisory roles, including a membership on the Grameen Foundation Technology Center Advisory Board. Academically, Dean Karlan holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MBA in Economics, and an MPP in Public Policy from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, as well as a BA in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia.
