Pekka Hänninen is an accomplished academic and leader in the field of medical physics and engineering, currently serving as the Dean at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Turku, since August 2019. Hänninen's extensive experience includes roles as Scientific Board Chairman, Advisor, and Co-founder at Aqsens Health, and Vice Dean at the University of Turku since August 2016. Hänninen also chairs the Board of the Paavo Nurmi Centre, a non-profit organization focused on sports medicine, and holds a vice chair position at Turku Bioimaging, contributing to excellence in bioimaging education. Hänninen's research career includes significant positions as an Academy Senior Research Fellow and Academy Researcher with the Academy of Finland, along with a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Turku, where Hänninen specialized in optical methods for bioanalytics. With a PhD in Medical Physics from the University of Turku and an MSc in Computer Science from Tampere University of Technology, Hänninen has established a notable career in optical microscopy and bioanalytical techniques, collaborating closely with Nobel laureate Stefan Hell.
