Brian Whiteaker has worked in the field of data science and machine learning since 2014. Brian began their career as an unpaid volunteer intern at the San Diego Regional Data Library, performing data analysis on San Diego Police Department hit and run data. In 2017, they were an intern at 85Sixty Marketing, researching and building a Multi-Armed Bandit Reinforcement Learner for marketing using Facebook data. In 2018, they were an intern at the NASA Glenn Research Center, researching, designing, and constructing a pipeline for the PeTaL Biomimicry Project. Brian also worked as a Data Science and Machine Learning Engineer at Bedrock Global AI. In 2019, they were a Graduate Student Researcher at the UCSD Scripps Institute of Oceanography, applying ML algorithms to dynamical systems and physical phenomena. Currently, they are an ML/AI Engineer at Turion Space (YC S21), where they are researching evolutionary algorithms, RL for combinatorial optimization, Bayesian optimization, various ML learners for problems in orbital dynamics, and deep learning models for computer vision.
Brian Whiteaker completed their Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics with a minor in Physics from UC San Diego in 2016. Brian then pursued a Certificate in Data Mining from UC San Diego Extended Studies in 2017. In 2019, they earned their Master's degree in Computational Science Mathematics & Engineering (CSME) from UC San Diego.
