Michael Czerwinski

Senior Data Scientist at Tune Therapeutics

Michael Czerwinski PhD has worked in various roles since 2005. Michael began their career as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Central Michigan University, where they studied ribonucleoprotein aggregation and quiescence in oocytes of the C. elegans female/hermaphrodite during periods of sperm depletion. Michael then moved to the University of Michigan Medical School in 2008, where they worked as a General Associate Laboratory Technician in the Laboratory of Dr. Deborah Gumucio PhD, studying the development of the mammalian gut and the molecular mechanism of villus emergence during the last third of gestation in the mouse. In 2010, they became a Graduate Student at Duke University, working in the Laboratory of Dr. Blanche Capel PhD, Department of Cell Biology, studying temperature dependent sex determination through systems biology and traditional cell and developmental biology approaches using the red-eared slider turtle Trachemys scripta elegans as a model. In 2019, they began a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, leveraging dual-training in computational and traditional wet lab approaches to understand and better develop engineered human tissues, with a primary research focus on the developmental origin and function of the non-epithelial cellular components of the human intestinal stem cell niche. In 2020, they began working at Precision BioSciences, Inc. as a Data Scientist II and Data Scientist I, and at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative as a Scientist and Consultant. Michael is currently employed at Tune Therapeutics as a Senior Data Scientist.

Michael Czerwinski PhD obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology, General from Central Michigan University in 2006. Michael then went on to obtain a Master of Science in Molecular Biology from Central Michigan University in 2008. In 2010, they began their Doctor of Philosophy in Cell Biology at Duke University, obtaining the degree in 2016. Michael also obtained a Program in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology certification from Duke University in October 2016. From 2016 to 2019, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Michigan Medical School, studying Development and engineering of human tissues. Michael then moved to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they were a Postdoctoral Fellow in Stem Cell Biology, GI, and Single Cell Biology from 2019 to 2020.
