Stephen Layland

Director Of Engineering, Data Platforms at Tubi

Stephen Layland has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Stephen is currently working at Tubi as the Director of Engineering, Data Platforms since July 2022. Prior to this, they held the position of Lead Data Engineer at Tubi from June 2019 to July 2022. Before Tubi, Stephen worked at Nuna Inc. where they served as an Engineering Manager from September 2018 to May 2019, and as a Senior Software Engineer from March 2018 to September 2018.

Stephen also spent a significant part of their career at Metric Insights, Inc. as an Engineering Lead from August 2012 to March 2018. During their time there, they oversaw engineering operations and successfully built infrastructure and architecture for a business intelligence platform. Stephen managed a team of 30 remote engineers and implemented solutions for quality control, release management, deployment, continuous integration, and scalability.

Before joining Metric Insights, Stephen worked at Linden Lab as a Data Warehouse Engineer from November 2009 to August 2012. Their responsibilities included connecting data sources and managing infrastructure for their data warehouse. Stephen also contributed to the development of logging infrastructure for various data analysis purposes.

Stephen's early work experience includes serving as a System Hacker in their self-employment venture from June 2008 to September 2011. Stephen also worked at Wolfram Research, Inc., where they held multiple roles such as Senior Database Developer/DBA from April 2007 to December 2009, Database Developer from August 2005 to April 2007, Documentation Programmer from January 2005 to August 2005, and Technical Support Engineer from July 2003 to December 2004.

Additionally, Stephen worked as a Consultant providing custom web application development and Mathematica consulting services from January 2003 to January 2005. Stephen started their career as a Research Assistant at Shindengen Mfg. Co. Ltd, where they conducted research on semiconductor micromachines from July 2001 to July 2002.

Stephen Layland attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology from 1996 to 2001 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics. Stephen also spent a year at the University of Tsukuba from 1998 to 1999, where they studied Technical Japanese.
