Richard Attfield has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Richard started their career as a Microsoft and Cisco Trainer at CDI Corporate Education Services from 2000 to 2003. Richard then worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Applied Biophysics Lab of The University of British Columbia in 2006. In 2009, Richard served as an Information Technology Consultant at Omicron Architecture Engineering Construction Ltd. Richard then worked as an Electrical Engineer (EIT) at Omicron from 2010 to 2013. Richard took a sabbatical from 2013 to 2015 to travel the world and run in various places, documenting their experiences on their blog, Eat.Run.See. Richard rejoined Omicron in 2015 as an Electrical Design Engineer (EIT) until 2016. Richard worked at Mobify as a Front-End Engineer Intern from 2016 to 2017 and later as a Support Engineer. Richard joined Finn AI in 2017 as a Junior Software Engineer and later transitioned to the role of Software Engineer, Data Science until 2019. From 2019 to 2021, Richard worked at Hootsuite as a Software Developer. Currently, they are employed as a Senior Software Engineer at TrueML starting from October 2021.

Richard Attfield attended the University of British Columbia from 2005 to 2009, where they obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Engineering Physics with a focus on the Electrical Option. In 2016, Richard enrolled in a web development immersive bootcamp at Lighthouse Labs, although there is no mention of a specific degree obtained from this program. Prior to their time at the University of British Columbia, Richard studied at the University of Johannesburg from 1991 to 1994, earning a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree with a major in Accounting.
