Matthew Holzapfel currently serves as the Town Engineer for the Town of Sunnyvale, Texas, since September 2023. Previously, Matthew held the position of Director of Public Works for the City of Heath, Texas, from October 2022 to September 2023, and was retired from November 2020 to September 2022 after a lengthy career at the City of Mesquite, where Matthew served in various roles including Director of Public Works. Matthew's engineering career began with the Peace Corps as a Municipal Engineer, followed by roles such as Area Engineer at Baldwin Associates and Civil Engineer at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Matthew's early career included work as a concrete finisher and worker for the City of Champaign's Public Works Department. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, completed in 1978.
