Kaya Lee Berne has extensive experience in photography and editorial roles, currently serving as a Photo Editor at TIME since August 2022. Prior to this position, Kaya held various photo editorial roles at National Geographic from January 2019 to August 2022, supervising photographic coverage for print and online platforms, and managing story narratives while collaborating with photographers. Earlier experience includes roles as Visual Research Editor and Data Reporter at National Geographic, and positions as Assistant Photo Editor and Photo Coordinator. Kaya also contributed as Producer for the LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph, freelanced as a Photo Editor for The New York Times, and served as Photo Editor and Production Manager for BURN Magazine. Kaya began their career as Producer and Studio Manager for renowned photographer David Alan Harvey. Kaya holds a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience with a minor in Studio Art from the University of Virginia.
