Derek Watt has a diverse range of work experience in the medical technology industry. Derek started their career at Wardrop Engineering as a Software Programmer in 2005. In 2007, they joined Thornhill Medical as the Manager of Testing, where they led various testing activities and served as the primary point of contact for customers worldwide. During their tenure, they played a key role in developing innovative products such as the MOVES line of integrated portable life support systems and the MADM mobile anesthesia delivery module. In 2016, they were promoted to the position of Manager - Quality, Regulatory & Test Engineering, where they oversaw the Quality, Regulatory and Test Engineering team and was responsible for maintaining ISO 13485 certification and global regulatory submissions. In 2018, they became the Director of Commercial Products, leveraging their deep knowledge of medical technology and healthcare environments to lead business and product development initiatives. Currently, Derek holds the position of Vice President - Field Operations, where they are the project lead for expanding Thornhill Medical's manufacturing capability and spearheading the MADM Field Anesthesia System program in partnership with the United States Marine Corps.
Derek Watt completed their Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Mechanical Engineering at Queen's University from 2001 to 2005. Derek pursued further education and obtained a Master of Applied Science (MASc) degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto from 2005 to 2007. Derek has also earned the certification of Professional Engineer from the Professional Engineers Ontario, although the specific month and year of obtaining this certification were not provided.
