Avrohom J. Kess

Avrohom J. (“A.J.”) Kess is Vice Chairman and Chief Legal Officer of Travelers. He is responsible for Legal Services, including Government Relations, as well as Corporate Communications, Public Policy and the Travelers Institute. Kess joined the company in December 2016 from the law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he was a Partner, a member of the Corporate Department and Head of the Public Company Advisory Practice. He also served as Travelers’ lead outside counsel, advising the company on a wide range of general corporate, transactional, securities laws and governance matters. Kess was a special counsel to The Conference Board Commission on Public Trust and Private Enterprise. He is a frequent speaker and an author on corporate governance topics. Kess received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Brooklyn College and his J.D. from New York University.
