Spencer Freedman currently serves as Special Counsel and Chief Officer for Risk and Compliance at The State University of New York since February 2022. Previously, Spencer held the position of Special Counselor and Senior Advisor to the Chancellor at SUNY from March 2021 to February 2022. Prior experience includes serving as Executive Deputy Inspector General at the New York State Office of the Inspector General from August 2012 to March 2021 and Chief Counsel for Civil Rights at the Office of the New York Attorney General from June 2008 to July 2012. Spencer has also contributed to legal education as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at New York Law School and held various roles in human rights and legal practice. Spencer holds a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, cum laude, from Brown University.
