Tom Hanson has worked in various roles since 2005. Tom started their career as an Operations Manager at the City of Markham in 2005, then worked as a Senior Associate at JD Banks & Associates Limited from 2008 to 2012. During this time, they also worked as a Workflow Manager at Wadetech Group of Companies. From 2012 to 2015, they were the IT PM / Projects Lead at Astley Gilbert Limited, specializing in the AEC industry. In 2015, they became the Chief Operating Officer at Droneify and then Senior Vice President at the same company in 2016. In the same year, they were appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of Defiant Labs, the advanced research and development arm of Droneify.

Tom Hanson attended the University of Guelph from 2007 to 2011 and obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biomedical Sciences.
