Michelle Walker has a diverse work experience in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) spanning over two decades. Michelle currently serves as the Deputy Technical Director at The Rivers Trust since May 2020. In this role, they provide technical advice and support to rivers trusts and Catchment-Based Approach partnerships. Previously, Michelle worked as the Head of GIS and Data Management at The Rivers Trust from December 2010 to May 2020, where they coordinated GIS and database support, training, and technical advice. Additionally, they were the co-chair of the Catchment Data User Group. Prior to their role at The Rivers Trust, Michelle worked as a Volunteer at the Bristol Avon Rivers Trust starting in November 2012.
Earlier in their career, Michelle served as a Senior Consultant at AMEC Entec from July 2006 to November 2010. Michelle also worked as a GIS Manager at Galway City Council from March 2003 to October 2004. Before that, they worked as a Project Director for the Spatial Information Unit at the National University of Ireland, Galway from May 2001 to March 2003. Michelle also held positions as a Remote Sensing Specialist at ERA Maptec Ltd from June 1999 to April 2001 and as an Assistant Geographic Data Analyst at the British Antarctic Survey from January 1996 to April 1999.
Michelle's educational background includes obtaining an MSc in GIS from the University of Edinburgh in 1995.
Michelle Walker obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Management from The Manchester Metropolitan University, where they studied from 1989 to 1992. Following this, they pursued further education at The University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1995 with a Master of Science degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
