Esther Berg, van den is a seasoned researcher affiliated with the Sociaal en Cultureel Planbureau since April 2003, specializing in civil society, participation, livability, and the social domain. Esther's research focuses on trends and developments within civil society and their impacts on social cohesion and democratic systems. Previously, Esther held a post-doctorate position at University College Roosevelt, Universiteit Utrecht, from November 2012 to September 2014, working on the 'Human Rights and the City' project. Esther's academic journey began at Universiteit Utrecht, where a PhD was achieved in 2001, examining the influence of domestic NGOs on Dutch human rights policy, along with experience as a research assistant at the Institute for Development Research Amsterdam and as a communication employee at Komitee Zuidelijk Afrika. Esther's educational background includes studies at the University of Amsterdam from 1988 to 1993.
