Katharyn Duffy

Verra Methodology Lead Author: Management for Fire Adapted Forests at National Forest Foundation

Katharyn Duffy has extensive work experience in the field of environmental science and research. Katharyn currently serves as the Director of Science Operations at Vibrant Planet, a position they have held since February 2023. Prior to that, they worked as the Lead Scientist for Nature-based Solutions at the same company from January 2022 to March 2023.

Before joining Vibrant Planet, Katharyn Duffy worked at Northern Arizona University, where they held various roles over the years. From March 2022 onwards, they served as an Adjunct Faculty member, contributing their expertise to the academic community. Katharyn was also the Seminar Coordinator for the EcoInformatics Seminar Series from June 2020 to February 2023.

Katharyn Duffy played an important role in course development and instruction at Northern Arizona University. Katharyn co-developed an applied Ph.D.-level course on best practices for interdisciplinary and team-based research and taught it from June 2021 to March 2022. Additionally, they instructed a course titled "Environmental Informatics Using Research Infrastructures & Their Data" from June 2020 to March 2022.

Furthermore, Katharyn Duffy served as an Open Source Software Engineer for Advanced Phenological Information Systems from June 2018 to June 2020 at Northern Arizona University. In this role, they developed open-source software to integrate vegetation greenness data from various sources and spatial scales.

In 2021, Katharyn Duffy also worked as a Verra Methodology Lead Author for Management for Fire Adapted Forests at the National Forest Foundation.

Through their work experiences, Katharyn Duffy has demonstrated expertise in environmental science, interdisciplinary research, course instruction, and software development.

Katharyn Duffy pursued their education at Northern Arizona University, where they earned a Master's degree in Climate Science and Solutions from 2011 to 2012. Later, they continued their studies at the same university and obtained a Ph.D in Geological and Earth Sciences/Geosciences, which they completed between 2013 and 2018.
