Peter Schwartz

Chief Risk Officer & General Counsel at The College Board

Peter leads the Risk Management Division, which includes the legal, compliance, and internal audit functions, as well as the policy and compliance aspects of test security, information security, and accessibility for students with disabilities. As general counsel, his principal areas of focus include strategic partnerships, intellectual property management, commercial transactions, corporate compliance, dispute resolution, and regulatory matters. As chief risk officer, Peter works to manage risk to the College Board in a way that allows us to vigorously pursue the mission and strategic objectives, with a special focus on ensuring the integrity and security of College Board tests and data and the accessibility of College Board products and programs.

Peter's legal background includes both law firm and in-house positions, and he has worked in the education and real estate industries in both legal and operational capacities. Prior to joining the College Board, Peter was senior vice president of Business Services at Antheus Capital, where he oversaw the legal and human resources functions as well as field operations. He has also served as vice president and general counsel at Kaplan Test Prep, vice president and special counsel to the chairman at MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings, and as an attorney at the Boston law firms of Ropes & Gray and Palmer & Dodge. After earning his bachelor’s degree at Brown University and his JD at Columbia Law School, Peter clerked for Judge Joseph L.Tauro on the United States District Court in Boston. Peter and his wife have three children and one dog.
