Michael Evans

Head Of Discipline Engineering And Safety Assurance at Thales Defense & Security

Michael Evans has extensive work experience in the fields of safety engineering, assurance, and management. Michael has held various roles in different companies throughout their career.

Starting in 1978, Evans worked in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as an Aircraft Maintenance Manager, specializing in instrument and avionics maintenance. Michael also managed the avionics and armament workshop.

In 1997, Evans joined Incitec Pivot as a Daily and Shutdown Planner, responsible for scheduling and planning for the ammonia plant.

In 1999, Evans moved to BAE Systems as a Safety Engineering Manager Aerospace. Michael held this role for almost 20 years, where they were accountable for regulatory compliance, incident investigation, and project management training.

From 2004 to 2009, Evans served as a Board Member and Deputy Chairman at Bishop Tyrrell Anglican School, and later as the Chairman at Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College from 2009 to 2012. Michael provided governance oversight, financial management, and leadership to the organization.

Evans then worked as a Consultant at Quartek from 2018 to 2020, before joining Boeing in 2020. At Boeing, they held roles as a Program Safety Management System Coordinator and a Senior Systems Safety Engineer.

Most recently, Evans has been employed at Thales and Thales Defense & Security, Inc. In 2022, they worked as a Safety Engineering and Assurance Manager at Thales before being appointed as the Head of Discipline Engineering and Safety Assurance at Thales Defense & Security, Inc. in 2023.

Michael Evans has a diverse education history in the field of aviation. In 2006, they obtained a Master of Aviation Management degree with a specialization in Aviation Psychology from the University of Newcastle. In 2010, they attended the Singapore Aviation Academy and received a Certificate in Integrated Safety Management Systems. The following year, in 2011, they furthered their studies at the same academy, focusing on Aircraft Accident and Investigation.

In 2001, Michael attended Aerospace Certifications and Training where they studied ISO 9001 for a brief period. From 1978 to 1980, they attended the RAAF School of Technical Training, earning an Associate Diploma in Instrumentation Technology/Technician.

Michael also gained knowledge and qualifications in various other areas related to aviation safety. Michael attended Leading Edge Safety where they studied Human Factor and Error Management in Safety Critical Industries. Additionally, they completed a Systems Safety Course at York College in the UK in 2015. Michael furthered their expertise in airworthiness and safety systems engineering systems at Nova Aerospace and attended the ISAP 2013 Summer School of Aviation Psychology at Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz.

In 2018, Michael pursued a Diploma in Aviation Management at TAFE NSW. Michael also acquired Certificates in Work Health and Safety from Pinnacle Safety Training and Training and Evaluation from the same institution. More recently, in 2017, they completed a Diploma in Quality Auditing at Southpac Aerospace Training.
