Luis De la Garza has a diverse work experience in education and advocacy. Luis is currently the President of Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA) Laredo United, where they lead a team of over 2500 members and serves as a State Board Director. In this role, they focus on advocating for teacher and employee workplace issues such as raises, healthcare, and security. Prior to their current position, Luis served as a teacher/coach at Laredo ISD. Luis also has experience as a Member of the Board of Trustees at TSTA, where they began in 2015. Additionally, Luis worked as an Adjunct Professor at Laredo Community College from 2012 to 2020.
Luis De la Garza has a diverse education history. Luis obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Government from The University of Texas at San Antonio in the years 1992-1996. Following this, they pursued a Master's degree in Public Administration from Texas A&M International University from 2000 to 2003. Then, from 2008 to 2011, they completed a Master of Arts degree in History from the same institution. Additionally, Luis De la Garza is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Military History from Liberty University, starting in 2019.
