Birgit Lao is an experienced leader in education and strategic planning, currently serving as the Director General at Terviseamet since May 2022. Previously, Birgit held the position of Diplomatic Representative for Education at the Ministry of Education and Research of Estonia and served as a Promoter for Education Estonia, contributing to the development of Estonia's education export brand. As CEO of Sihtasutus Innove from 2014 to 2021, Birgit focused on organizational optimization and the establishment of user feedback systems. Birgit's earlier roles include Head of the Analysis Department and Deputy Head of the Structural Funds Department at the Ministry of Education and Research, as well as Secretary General at the Association of Estonian Adult Educators ANDRAS. Academic credentials include a Master's degree in Education Entrepreneurship from Oulu University of Applied Sciences and Master's and Bachelor's degrees in European Studies and Law from the University of Tartu.
