James Laughlin started their work experience as a Sports Marketing Intern at Tennessee Tech University in 2015. James then became a Graduate Assistant at Gardner-Webb University in 2016. After that, they worked as an Assistant Football Coach and Head Freshman Basketball Coach at T.L. Hanna High School in 2019. In 2020, they transitioned to be an Outside Sales Manager at DVSport, Inc. before taking on the role of Director of Football Operations at Tennessee Technological University in 2021.

James Laughlin completed their Bachelor's degree in Marketing at Tennessee Technological University from 2012 to 2016. James then went on to earn their Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Gardner-Webb University from 2016 to 2019.
