Michelle M. Smith has extensive experience in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities, currently serving as the Regional Program Administrator for Quality Assurance at the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities since September 2016. Prior to this role, Michelle held various positions within the Department, including Regional Program Administrator and Middle Tennessee Quality Assurance Director, focusing on compliance monitoring for state and federal-funded services. Michelle began their career as the Assistant Director at First Steps, Inc., a preschool for children with and without disabilities. Michelle holds a Master of Education in Special Education and Teaching from East Tennessee State University, earned between 1985 and 1987.
