Markecia Koulesser is an experienced professional in art and cultural preservation, currently serving as the Associate Registrar at Telfair Museums since July 2023. Prior to this role, Markecia was the Collections Manager at Gaston County Museum of Art and History from September 2019 to May 2023. Markecia also held the position of NC Civil Rights Trail Coordinator with the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, facilitating the marking of significant Civil Rights sites across the state from August 2020 to June 2021. Earlier experiences include positions as a Digitization and Serial Control Technician at Johnson C. Smith University Library, Museum Experience Associate and Collections and Archives Intern at Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Library Technical Assistant at Central Piedmont Community College, and Processing Assistant at Z. Smith Reynolds Library. Markecia's educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Anthropology, History, and Cultural Resource Preservation from Wake Forest University and a Master's Degree in Public/Applied History from Southern New Hampshire University.
