Haag Sherman is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Tectonic Financial. He serves on the Board of Directors for Tectonic Financial, as well as an executive officer and director of Tectonic Financial’s subsidiaries. He is also a director of CBIZ (NYSE: CBZ), a leading provider of financial, insurance and advisory services.
Haag formed Tectonic with the intent of not only leading the way in financial services, but also shaping the direction of the financial technology landscape. His leadership creates a culture of creativity, openness, responsibility and entrepreneurial spirit that inspires employees to work together and rally behind his vision of being a next-generation financial services company.
Prior to founding Tectonic, Haag co-founded and served in various executive positions (including Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer) of Salient Partners, a Houston-based investment firm. Under his leadership, the firm's assets grew to $17.5 billion. He developed the vast majority of Salient’s investment products and co-developed patented software that provided scale to the distribution of Salient’s investment products.
Prior to co-founding Salient, Haag served as an executive officer and partner of The Redstone Companies where he, among other things, managed a private equity portfolio with a concentration in financial services companies. Before that, he practiced corporate law at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, LLP and was an auditor at Price Waterhouse, a public accounting firm. Haag is an attorney and certified public accountant and has served as an adjunct professor of law at The University of Texas School of Law. He previously served as a member of the board of directors of Salient MLP & Energy Infrastructure Fund, PlainsCapital, Hilltop Holdings, Blue Dolphin Energy Company, Miller Energy Resources, Inc. and ZaZa Energy Corp. and currently serves on private company boards that he co-founded and on the board of trustees of Episcopal High School in Bellaire, Texas.
Haag has commented and written extensively on public policy and financial matters, including authoring articles for Barron’s, Marketwatch and other publications and wrote Shattering Orthodoxies: An Economic and Foreign Policy Blueprint for America (Easton Press, 2008), which reached no. 6 on Amazon’s top Social and Economic Policy Books after publication.
