Michael Kitzman

Senior Frontend Engineer, Engineering Enablement at Teachable

Michael Kitzman has extensive work experience in the field of frontend engineering and web development. Michael is currently serving as a Senior Frontend Engineer and Design System Lead at Teachable since May 2022.

Prior to that, Michael worked at Medallia from April 2018 to May 2022, where they held the role of a Senior Frontend Engineer. Their responsibilities included working on the Alchemy design system used across Medallia and its acquired companies. Michael contributed towards building the system in React and Typescript, utilizing Styled-components for styling, React Testing Library for testing, and documenting it on a Gatsby website. Michael was also part of a small team that developed the component library from scratch.

Before joining Medallia, Michael served as a Principal Frontend Engineer at Oracle from April 2016 to April 2018. In this role, they collaborated closely with designers to implement their mocks for an application focused on configuring banners and alerts. Michael demonstrated proficiency in project and product management skills, such as creating features, estimating tasks, and communicating status to other teams. Additionally, they mentored junior developers, conducted code reviews, performed testing, and contributed to the overall application architecture.

Prior to Oracle, Michael worked at AddThis, which was later acquired by Oracle, from March 2015 to April 2016. As a Senior Frontend Engineer, they played a key role in creating and maintaining code used on millions of websites with billions of monthly page views. Michael also contributed to the development of an application editor where customers designed banners, alerts, and share links. Performance and stability were crucial considerations due to the widespread use of the code.

Michael gained significant experience while working at Yahoo from May 2007 to March 2015 as a Frontend Engineer for Yahoo Fantasy Sports. Michael contributed to building the internet's leading Fantasy Sports website, leveraging PHP, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Michael prioritized user-focused products that adhered to web standards and accessibility guidelines while providing optimized and scalable code to handle high traffic volumes.

Earlier in their career, Michael served as the Lead Web Developer at RealtyTrac Inc. from February 2006 to May 2007. In this role, they managed and developed the front-end of the RealtyTrac.com website using ASP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Michael also worked as a Senior Web Developer at GoApply Inc. from November 2005 to February 2006, and held various positions at Autobytel Inc. from November 1997 to September 2005. Michael started as a QA Engineer and worked their way up to become a Lead Web Development Engineer and eventually the Manager of Consumer Web. During their time at Autobytel, they gained expertise in Coldfusion and HTML, which enabled their transition from QA Engineer to developer.
