Prior to joining Cisco, Baum worked as an Independent Strategy Consultant in 2005 and served as CFO & COO at CXO Systems from 2002 to 2005. At CXO Systems, they grew the company into a global software company with solid technology, predictable revenue, and significant customers. Ed raised a total of $11M through two rounds of VC funding.

Baum's earlier experience includes being a Partner at Tactical Consulting from 2001 to 2002, Vice President of Marketing at Cambridge Information Network/Cambridge Technology Partners from 1995 to 2000, Director at Axiom Management Consulting from 1990 to 1995, and Senior Management Information Consultant at Accenture from 1986 to 1988.
