Hugo van der Westhuizen has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over several industries. Hugo started their career in 1996 as a Financial Client Advisor at Absa Group, where they assessed clients' financial needs and sold financial services. Hugo proposed and implemented a system to improve client service.

In 1998, Hugo moved into media sales, starting as an Advertising Sales Consultant for community newspapers. Hugo quickly progressed and became a Senior Key Account Manager for Media24 Weekly Consumer Magazine Division. Hugo was responsible for selling advertising opportunities to both existing and new clients. Hugo was later promoted to the role of Regional Sales Manager, where they developed and managed the regional strategic sales plan for Media24 Weekly Magazines.

In 2010, Media24 restructured, and Hugo was promoted to the position of Business Head: Advertising Sales for the Central Magazine Sales Division. Hugo was responsible for the go-to-market strategy and change management plan for over 60 Media24 Consumer Magazine titles and digital properties.

In 2012, Hugo moved to the role of Business Manager: Retail Marketing at Media24, where they spearheaded the Retail Marketing division. Hugo focused on increasing magazine brand visibility and availability across multiple channels in major retailers.

Hugo joined Ads24 in 2013 as the Regional Manager: Coastal, leading a team of sales executives and implementing solution sales strategies across multiple publications. The Coastal division achieved the best financial performance in the division for two consecutive years.

In 2015, Hugo became the Advertising and Media Manager at Clicks Group, where they developed a standalone retail marketing agency within the group. Hugo aimed to unlock bigger marketing investments from key suppliers and grow unit sales.

Hugo's work experience also includes roles such as Head of Sales at Muscat Media Group, Marketing Manager at African Selection Management (PTY) Ltd, and Managing Director at InMotion Marketing & Supply Chain Pty Ltd.

Most recently, in 2023, Hugo joined Tagmarshal as the Head of Media, overseeing media-related activities in the company.

Throughout their career, Hugo has demonstrated strong leadership, strategic planning, and relationship management skills, leading to significant achievements in sales, marketing, and market share growth in various industries.

Hugo van der Westhuizen's education history includes attending Stellenbosch University in 2014 for a course focused on Digital Marketing. In the same year, they also attended the University of Cape Town for a Leadership Development Programme (LDP). Prior to that, from 1993 to 1995, they studied at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, where they obtained a degree in Marketing and Sales, specifically a ND Marketing.
